When does overtime apply?

Under the FLSA, non-exempt employees earn 1.5× their regular rate after 40 hours in a workweek. Enter the hours already worked this week and the calculator splits the shift correctly.

What about daily overtime?

A few states (California most famously) add daily overtime after 8 hours. This calculator applies the federal weekly rule — check your state rules for daily triggers.

Is the regular rate just the hourly wage?

Not always: nondiscretionary bonuses and shift differentials are part of the regular rate for overtime. Use the loaded rate for precision.

Estimates for planning, not legal or payroll advice. Award, contract and statutory rules vary — always confirm with your award, agreement or adviser.
